It’s hard to believe that my sweet little boy is already two years old! To celebrate his second birthday, we decided to go with a “Two Sweet” candyland theme, complete with fun decorations, delicious treats, and kid-friendly activities. Y’all know I love a theme and the little details. This party was so fun for me to plan!
I will tell you exactly where I got everything for the party in this post! I have also linked everything I could on my Amazon storefront if you prefer to shop that way, or my LTK.
We held the party at our home and had both family and friends come over to celebrate with us. To decorate, we made a balloon arch in bright, fun, and bold colors, as well as pastel rainbow streamers in the doorway. I actually used 3 different balloon arches to make this one with all the colors I wanted! I bought this one as the main balloon arch. Then I added in some of the green balloons from this arch (I did not use the Cactus confetti balloons), and I added a few sprinkle balloons to go with the theme! I wanted it to look bright & fun, but not too girly. The green balloons helped with that. I also bought these cute lollipop balloons but didn’t end up having a place for them.
We set up a coloring station for the kids where they could color on a large coloring sheet that had birthday party shapes to color.
I ordered the coloring sheet through Oriental Trading Co, but there’s also this similar one available from Amazon. I put a metallic disposable tablecloth over this 4 foot adjustable folding table that was a perfect height for the kids, with kid chairs we have from IKEA. And it folds up easily for storage when you’re done!
Activity #2 – make your own play-doh cupcake!
We also had a sensory activity where the kids could make their own play doh cupcakes with play doh, silicone cupcake liners, fun pom poms and birthday candles. I had a box for each kid with these items inside. Both activities were a hit with the kids and kept them entertained throughout the party, and they got to take them home. The rest of the time the kids played on our play set and ran around in the backyard!
To keep with the “Two Sweet” theme, we had plenty of sugary treats on hand, including donut holes, salt water taffy, and my favorite party item, personalized candy: custom wrapped gummy worms and skittles. We also had Chick-fil-A chicken minis, yogurt parfaits, and a fruit platter for those looking for something a little more substantial for brunch. Our party was from 10-12 in the morning so a full meal wasn’t expected. I arranged the yogurt parfaits in these cute cups from Amazon. I got our cake from Market Street and served it on this mint cake stand.
For the adults, I served a signature cocktail made with cotton candy and either champagne or sparkling water, rimmed with frosting & sprinkles, which was a fun and festive addition to the party! I always like to have a signature cocktail whenever I’m throwing a party!
I ordered 9 dozen donut holes from a local shop called Sugar Babes in Melissa, TX. I made these paper cones with construction paper, designed the “Eat more HOLE foods” stickers myself, and printed them on these labels from home! I arranged them in these acrylic trays (I bought 2) and loved how they turned out! I could fit about 5 or 6 donuts in each cone.
For the kids, we had cheerios, goldfish, pouches, fruit snacks, and juice boxes which were all easy for them to grab and go while playing.
One of the best things about the party was that we were able to hold it outside, thanks to the beautiful weather. (Which was very welcomed after the rain and tornado in the area a few days prior – but that’s Texas weather for you!) The kids loved running around and playing in the yard, and it was a great way to keep them entertained.
We set up 2 folding tables outside with white linen tablecloths I got in a 2 pack on Amazon, and one table inside with a white tablecloth, spring flowers I arranged from Trader Joe’s, and fun colored confetti. I ran to Target the day before to get the extra tablecloth for the inside table. All 3 were great quality & I will reuse them for future events!
We used disposable plates, napkins & silverware for Jett’s party. I got these cute aqua blue plates from Target, fun fringe napkins by the brand Meri Meri, and yellow cups for drinks. Bright & fun – and no dishes!
To make the photo backdrop, I set up my portable photoshoot backdrop (that I already had for photography) and put sprinkle stickers on it.
I put together a little party favor bag for each kid with a fidget pop-it toy and threw in some sparkle pom poms into a metallic bag. I used a hole punch then looped tulle and the “thank you” tags through and tied a bow! I downloaded the sprinkle thank you tags from MeganHStudio for free, then printed at home on cardstock paper. These would be a great idea for a class gift as well!
Overall, my son’s “Two Sweet” birthday party was a sweet success! It was a fun and festive way to celebrate his special day, and we loved seeing him so happy and loved by his family and friends. We can’t wait to see what next year’s party will bring! If you are looking for a 2nd birthday party theme idea, candyland, candy, or sweets, I hope this post gave you some great ideas.
