We are pregnant with baby #2!
Here are some things I am doing differently this pregnancy:
1. Focusing on my nutrition and NOT eating for 2
My first pregnancy I gained over 50 lbs and ate whatever I wanted. My first trimester I did have a lot of cravings (especially for carbs) but I am really making a conscious effort not to over indulge. I also have to eat protein first thing in the morning or I will literally pass out. I am doing my best to fuel my body with whole foods.
2. Staying active
I felt so bad my first pregnancy that I did not work out hardly at all. With my first it hurt to even walk. Ultimately a healthy baby at the end is all that matters, but I really struggled in pregnancy and postpartum last time. I am doing my best to stay active to set myself up for the easiest recovery.
I have a LifeTime Fitness membership and take Jett to the gym with me every week. I try to work out 2-4 times a week. I am also naturally more active chasing around a toddler and running errands. This gym membership has been the best thing for my mental health since becoming a mom! Join here!
3. Weighing myself
This might not be good for everyone, especially if you struggle with body image, but for me I am weighing myself every morning to make sure I am on track with my goals and not gaining too much too quickly. I really think how much you gain in the first trimester is the most important. Once you get to 2nd and 3rd trimester, your body is supposed to gain about a pound a week, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it – baby needs to grow! It’s obviously dangerous to diet during pregnancy and your baby needs nutrients!
I gained 50-55 lbs with my first pregnancy and had a really rough time postpartum with losing it. My goal this time is to gain 25-35.
This pregnancy I have gained 4 lbs in my first trimester so I am on track! I am proud of myself and the hard work I have put in, since it does not come easy for me.
I am 16 weeks now and have gained 5-6 lbs so far.
I know it will only get harder as it gets further on but ultimately a healthy mom and baby is all that matters in the end!

4. Chiropractor
Like I said above, I could barely walk at one point in my first pregnancy. I had never been to a chiropractor before and didn’t know they could have “fixed” me! I am seeing a chiropractor now to hopefully help with everything shifting inside me.
5. Compression Socks
I swelled SO BAD in my first pregnancy. I am sure I will swell up especially near the end, but bought some compression socks to wear, and I have been elevating my feet at night as well. I have also tried dry brushing. I’m not sure if any of these things will help but I’m doing the best I can to not get as bad as the first time! It may just be how my body reacts to pregnancy though.
6. Enjoying it!
This may be the last pregnancy I have (who knows!) so I am really trying to enjoy it as best I can. I actually am enjoying being pregnant in the summer – bikini with my bump out, going to the pool, not having any plans, and wearing dresses! I want to soak it all in and enjoy the last few months with just Jett before baby girl joins our family.
