I had my gender reveal party in October of 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic. We took some extra precautions to social distance because of Covid, but still wanted to celebrate the new life growing inside me! Below I will share some of the things we did to have a Covid-friendly gender reveal party, the games we played, and the socially distanced lunch I planned. I have included links at the end of the post to shop all the party goodies!

In October 2020 we hosted a Baby BBQ Gender Reveal Party at our new house! My husband & I found out the gender after my 17 week appointment on September 30, 2020 (2 days before the party). I had the doctor call my brother to tell him the gender so he could go buy the right color confetti poppers. Then I met him for lunch and got the poppers from him and did a private reveal with Spencer that evening at the park. That weekend we had a gender reveal party for our friends & family! My family and friends came over for a Baby BBQ and housewarming party. Here are some pictures from our Texas gender reveal.

It took a little extra planning to create a socially distanced meal for our party, to be sensitive to COVID-19 and to minimize contact. So, I thought of doing popcorn as a snack/appetizer, since charcuterie boards and chips & dip are out. My parents picked up this super cute popcorn from a shop in Anna, TX and I served it in blue & pink popcorn bags. I found the cupcake toppers at Dollar Tree for…you guessed it…$1! We assembled the balloon arch ourselves. It takes awhile to blow up the balloons and assemble, but thankfully I had my party planning Aunt in town and my dad & husband to help! I would definitely recommend purchasing a balloon pump for this undertaking. I got this one and have used it for every party since! I wore a blue dress with pink earrings, and my husband wore a pink polo shirt. My family also dressed in pink & blue and it was so fun to see people get festive! My husband and I both got our outfits less than 24 hours before the party…thank goodness for fast shipping because I kind of forgot about that part :)
Food
For lunch, I would typically serve a buffet style meal, but I wanted there to be less contact, so we had a socially distanced BBQ instead. I ordered the BBQ meat and mac & cheese from Hutchins in McKinney, TX and picked up a salad at Costco. I also did BBQ chips in little paper bags. My family owns a BBQ restaurant in Arizona (Joe’s Real BBQ) and my dad so kindly brought out some of their trays and sauce cups for me to use! I dished the sides into individual containers to minimize contact, and had the sandwiches on King’s Hawaiian rolls to make little sliders! My mom and I assembled cute silverware packs with a fork, spoon, knife, and napkin for each person, and I cut the mini paper bags and tucked in a name tag with my calligraphy.

Games
After lunch, we played a couple fun games! The first was called “Diaper Dash” and two at a time people raced, blindfolded, to put a diaper on a baby doll. The winner got a “gold medal” I picked up in a pack of 8 at Dollar Tree. It certainly got some laughs!
Game for the guys
The next game was for the boys. I feel like sometimes guys feel excluded at baby-related functions, so I wanted to do something just for them. All the guys sat in a row, and had to put a balloon under their shirts. It was hilarious. Then, they had to bend over and tie their shoes. Whoever tied them the fastest won! For the prizes I had Baby Goldfish and Baby Ruth bars.
Guess That Baby
The last game was ongoing during the party. I had asked everyone who RSVP’d to send me their baby picture before the party. I printed them all at Walgreens and assembled them on a posterboard in random order. Each person wrote their guesses on a piece of paper and the winner got a prize! For this prize I had a Baby Bottle Pop and Baby Lips chapstick by Maybelliene. Even some of my family members didn’t get them all right!
Now for the part you’ve been waiting for…the reveal! We did confetti poppers and it’s a…..BOY! I couldn’t get mind to pop at the same time as Spencer, so there’s a slight delay as you can see 🙂
We had a blast and can’t wait for baby BOY to get here!
